I'm seriously thinking of having a custom Encore barrel made to shoot this cartridge, the 50 Alaskan, just for the heck of it. Although I realize it way off the scale of the NEED category, I think it would be interesting. One friend of mine said he thought it is a ridiculous idea. I just want to know what some of you think.

Other info:
Specs = .510 bullet diameter.  Bore = .500, Grove = .510. Factory ammo available from Buffalo Bore and Grizzley Ammo. Pressure in the 34,000 CUP range. Brass available from Star, and Quality Cartridges. 450 Alaskan can be necked up. Barrel blanks available from Pac Nor and Kreiger, 18" and 20" twist respectively. Custom barrel work available from Dave Van Horn. Dies available from RCBS. Plenty of bullets available from Midway, and others in the 450gr to 525 gr range.  Cartridge easily generates over 4000 ft lbs muzzle energy, and approx 1800 fps.
