Ruger ringmounts w/ levers
Posted by GaryVA on Mar 23 2006
Point man,

Ruger 338WM using LEU 1-4X/Heavy Duplex mounted w/ Ruger low ringmounts fitted w/ levers. Shooting 100yards centered up on an 8" black aiming circle w/ a 2" white bullseye.

I fired a control five shot sting centered in the 2" bullseye that measured approx. 1.25moa high x 1.25moa wide. This was normal for the rifle.

I then shot a second five shot string removing and replacing the scope prior to each shot. The second string opened up to approx. 1.75moa high x 1.5moa wide w/ the group fairly centered in the 2" bullseye and none going completely out of the bullseye.

I'm more than satisfied w/ the results and have total confidence in the factory ringmounts. Keep in mind that my heavy duplex substends to cover the 2" center at 100yards which is not as precise as a normal crosshair. Also I did not wait for the barrel to completely cool down between shots, therefore some of the vertical height may be attributed to a warmer barrel in the second string.

Make sure both of your ringsmounts are square and flat forward against their recoil lugs mounted on the receiver. Lap the rings in this position then install your scope. When you remove and replace the scope, ensure that it is again pushed forward against the recoil lugs prior to tightening the levers or thumb screws. This way you engage the lugs on both the front and rear rings maximizing their repeatability.

Hope this is of some use,
Gary
