I wondered that too
Posted by bushrat on Mar 19 2006
George,

Should have clarified, the accuracy change was on the level of one and a half to 2moa instead of the usual 1moa I get with that rifle. The seating-depth change was a concern of mine too, since I like to seat my bullets fairly far out. I didn't measure with the dial caliper though after they were dented, just noted the dented ones in bottom of mag shot different from a cold barrel or as part of a three-shot group. Could be they were indeed seated farther by recoil, though some of the tips (prior to the magazine mod) were bent at rather sharp angles and I always wondered how that changed the coefficient and travel through the air. Logic would dictate it should "wobble" a bit with the nose bent over so much <grin>. That rifle holds three in the mag and it was all those bottom rounds I saved and shot one day for comparison. Can't recall when I last fired all three rounds at a moose...so I'd end up after every fall with those "crushed" ones.

If you guys ever get a chance to look at the detachable magazine from a Browning BLR you'll see they made it shaped like the cartridge case, instead of just rectangular, to keep the cases from moving fwd on recoil. I always wondered why other rifle manufactures don't do this for bolt actions. Sigarms uses a rubber bumper in the magazine I think....

best, Mark
