[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Win 71 ! Posted by George on Feb 26 2006 DW, The 71 is truly a GREAT lever gun! If the price is right... grab both, seriously. Since the 71 was tied to the 348 and the 348 was tied to the 71- the bullet & ammo choices are limited. I have two originals both in the deluxe version and really enjoy loading for and shooting both. Sight selection minus the scope stuff is good- tang, receiver, bolt peep (if equiped) and regular open. If tapped for the receiver sight and/or tang... great but I wouldn't drill and tap an original if it isn't already. Bullet selection for flat point, jacketed is limited but not bad. Hornady makes the 200, Barnes original in 220, 250 and Hawk makes the 200, 250, 300. Several cast bullets are also available. With the Browning/Win 71 of several years ago, Winchester loaded some good ammo for it and it shows up regularly on e-bay, etc. and can be found in limited supply here and there. Along with its older cousin, the Win 86, no finer lever gun out there. Good luck. Previous: Winchester Model 71 Darreld Walton Feb 26 2006 Next: 71 BrownBear Feb 26 2006 Message Thread:
