Reduced loads with AA5744 and SR4759 are very good.  With microgroove barrels, slower powders can allow the bullet to retain purchase of the grooves.  Lee Reloading has an article on that in his book.  Too fast a powder will push the cast bullet faster than the rifling can handle and the bullet strips on the lands.

Lee's book has a formula for reduced loads.  The 45/70 is extremely versatile and while short on speed, it can pack a whollop with a slow heavy bullet.
