A different gunsmith might give you a different answer, but mine said the 450 Alaskan is simply too long to function in any Marlin.  Loaded rounds are a lot longer than 45-70's, but I haven't miked the difference to give you a more difinitive idea.  Haven't worked with the 500 Alaskan, but I assume it's at least as long as the 450, if not longer, depending upon bullet design.

I like the looks of the XLR too, but any wildcat I put in one won't be any longer than the 45-70.
