.450 Alaskan
Posted by CowlitzSteelie on Feb 22 2006
Howdy Alaskans,

I couldn't help but read some information on the .450 Alaskan in some of your forums.  It sounds very exciting.  It's on my to get list as well as the .50 Alaskan...

I plan to purchase a Marlin 1895MXLR chambered in .450 Marlin or the Marlin 1895XLR chambered in 45/70 and convert it into a .450 Alaskan.  Which rifle caliber do you think would convert more easily?

Check out how purty these Marlin XLRs are....

Can anyone recommend an outfit that can accomplish this?  So far I have been looking at Nonneman Custom Rifles and Montana Rifleman.

Murphy, if you are still offering load data for the .450 Alaskan, I would greatly appreciate it.  I would also like to hear some of your sea stories...that would be fascinating.

For some of you all having a hard time finding brass and dies, I took the liberty to find some for you.

Brass for the .450 Alaskan is available at MidwayUSA.com  Here is the link...

I would size and form the dies, as it appears there are a lot of variables with this brand of brass.

RCBS three die set is also available there...

The cost is $252.99 right now....but they seem to be the only ones I can find right now.  If you reload a lot you will pay them off real quick.  If you want to factory crimp them, send a dummy cartridge to Lee Precision and they will custom make you a Factory crimp die.  I forget how much they charge but you can inquire at www.leeprecision.com. ; I wanted one for my .500 S&W ammo and they custom built me one.  I thought that was pretty cool.

Thanks for your time.  Hope to hear from you all.

Brandon
