This has to be done in consideration of the total case capacity, e.g. a 223 vs 375. If you elect to increase your powder charge above the max recommended for the x bullet you will need to be adept at interrupting/extrapulating pressure changes (usual classic signs of unsafe pressures and/or head case expansion) otherwise one would be well advised to "start low, work up and stick with the manual".
