366 Alaskan
Posted by Murphy on Jan 26 2006
Kabluewy,

I like the sound of this project.  The 338 WM case has the same capacity of the 9.3x64 and would have the same velocity potential.  The 64 is a dead number now days.  I tried for years to revive it but it has slipped even farther into obscurity recently. I liked the 64 case because it was beltless yet fit ito the standard action length with a .495 body diameter.  I like it when you talk of the SD numbers but to keep it equal we must consider the 275gr .358 at .306.  the 286gr .366 at .306 and the 300gr .375 at .306.  Woodleigh makes heavyweights for averybody but Swift makes an awsome 300gr .366 with an SD of .320.  That bullet would make your 366 Alaskan a great slayer of beasts and every bit the equal of the H&H.

You shouldn't forget the plinking (cheaper) bullets for the caliber, the 232 Norma Vulcan (from Graf & son) and Speers 270 gr semi spitzer. Swift also makes the A-frame in 250 grain which will hold together at the velocities of 2800 fps, which is about where the 366 would be.  There is no shortagee of bullets for the 9.3 caliber and this should be a great project.   Good shootin'.
