Good comments.  It's nice to know you shoot something besides a 458.  Could you tell me what bullet you prefer in the 416 or 458 for bears as when you were making comparisons?  I assume you use something less than 500 grains in the 458.

I think the 416 is a little better killer than the 458 when any distance is involved and when using the Remington/Hoffman/ Rigby.  The Taylor for me is a little short of that dynamic trio in performance.  Though a 400/416 @ 2300 fps is all we need for little bears.  I also think the 458 Winnie is at its best with a bullet of about 450 grains because it needs some velocity.  But the Lott takes care of that for us.  Good post.
