the aformentioned work was necessary as the Marlin was worked over ie...new hand built stock front/rear,trigger job, heavier extractor, new sights and even electroless nickel plating. I had WWG work my lever gun years back but they obviously did not work the barrel over in any regards. Shot like crap most of the time. If the idea of being reasonably accurate is fine then this work performed by them would be acceptable but for the fliers that took place in my hunts this was unacceptable. I slugged the barrel and came to the conclusion this was necessary-my rifle and now my joy! This could be a hindsight picture but never too late eh? I have done alot of learning to get this far and I suspect down the road this adventure will pay off earlier than this project took if something like this does come across my trail. Those who have experienced Quality Control with some manufacturers will find that some barrel work or out right barrel exchange is par for the course. If firelapping is your study then I would suggest to study what a few knowledgable and experienced fellows have got to share-there on the internet and at a few of the other forums. I'm sure when I compare notes with some bolt guns that the work I performed on this will outshoot some of the bolt guns out there and would surprise most. Controversial-you bet! But I will bring home the bacon and hit em hard! I believe the next time I purchase a new rifle I will get in touch with Doug Turnbull and get me a 1886 in a 45-70 or a 50-110 or maybe the 50 Alaskan or hmmmmm a model 71- never know. Anymore you would think you get what you pay for. Caveat Emptor!
