[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] breaking in new barrels Posted by mauserboy on Aug 20 2005 Let me first say that I don't negate the validity of firelapping or otherwise doing specific things to accurize a new barrel. Neither do I doubt what other writers here say regarding the results. But aside from cleaning the bore of a new barrel every ten shots or so the first time out shooting it, the only thing I have done with the various centerfire rifles I have owned, some of which were true tackdrivers, was to put 100 rounds or so of jacketed ammo through them. If, at that point, some of the guns I've owned didn't shoot as well as I would have liked, I usually did some stockwork, including glasbedding and barrel channel work, which usually did the job. So, maybe I'm an old geezer stuck in my ways, but I'll probably keep on doing it the same way. Now, that said, I have had one or two benchrest style guns, including a .224 Clark with a massive Hart barrel, mainly for my own enjoyment rather then competition, that I did some very select reloading for, including neckturning, etc. and using Sweet's solvent while shooting, but that's as far as I've ever gone. I guess I've just been lucky, but, that's how it's been. Thanks Message Thread:
