Reloading 357 Sig...any experiences
Posted by Doc on Jul 31 2005
I'm planning on reloading 357 Sig for practice at the range.  I have the dies, a box of 125 grain Gold Dot's (designated "357 Sig"), and I think I'll use AA #9.  I'm an experienced handloader (but mostly rifle and .44 magnum pistol), and I tend to be on the cautious side while doing it.  The working pressures with this round are pretty impressive and make me a bit nervous, so I thought I'd ask for feedback from you good folks before going to the bench.

I know the 357 Sig is not a true .357 but more of a 9mm on steriods.  However, I have heard that you shouldn't use 9mm bullets when reloading ("different shape"?), and in fact Speer designates "357 Sig" bullets in its Gold Dot line, which I bought (....but it says .355 on the box which is 9mm).  I've also heard that you shouldn't reform .40 SW brass, because it will be too short.....I already have lots of Sig brass anyway.

I'm impressed with the ballistics and field reports of the 357 Sig, and truly enjoy shooting it in my 229 and 239.  I have shot hundreds of rounds without a single feeding error or any other malfunction.  I have several reloading manuals, and will be consulting them for recipes.  Any experiences and precautions you'd care to share regarding reloading this round would be welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks folks.
