[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Look into the bore Posted by Ennis on Jul 30 2005 I like Marlins for a woods gun. They are light, strong, have half the moving parts of a Winchester, and look like the guns the cowboys had in the movies when I was a kid. I still hunt my 1893 30-30 with 28" bbl. Marlins used to be the hardware store gun, right next to the bolt action Mossberg shotguns and across from the rubber boots and fishing lures. WWG and others have made them respectable by tweaking them and, if I had the money, I'd buy one. However, Marlin insists on roll stamping the lettering and consumer warning on their barrels, after they rifle them. Some Marlins leave the factory with the bore actually pressed in under the warning lettering on the barrel. You can actually look into the bore and see it. Marlin is aware that this happens and if you happen to get one where it's obvious, they will replace your barrel quickly and for free. I had one back from them in two weeks.
