If you have one of the Colt Light Rifles then you need to talk to Melvin Forbes at the New Ultra Light Rifles or contact Talley who actually makes the one piece base-rings for this rifle (and a number of other rifles). This rifle is based on Melvin's custom designed action and after accuratizing by a good gun smith have been SUB-moa performers for me. In addition they can be turned into very light rifles (aka "sheep hunting rifle") including the magnum calibers. I have been way happy with mine and have had several chambered in Dakota calibers but you will be limited to "std length" cartridges.
Lastly I would "dispose" of your current scope and follow Murphy's advice and get a Leopold: 1.75 x 6, 2 x 7, 2.5 x 8, or my favorite a 3 x 9 compact matte. Good luck.
