257 Weatherby loads
Posted by Ozarks on Jul 24 2005
This is my favorite Weatherby caliber to shoot and the largest caliber Weatherby that is comfortable for me to shoot as well.  Shoot lots of rounds off the bench and still have fun with this one.

I am not a fan of having a yard of scope on every rifle, but this caliber can reach way out there and touch something, so currently I use a 4.5-14X Burris Fullfield II.  Dollar for dollar I feel it is a great value.  Not the best 4.5-14X out there, but all I could afford at the time.  I have a 3-10X Burris Signature on my 300 Weatherby, and it is noticeably better in certain areas,  but that much better for the dollars spent depends on the individual and hunting scenarios.

The Burris Signature series and Leupold VXIII’s have served me and millions others well at another dollar level.  On the more affordable scale, I also highly recommend the Weaver Grand Slam for dollars spent.

Not sure what animals you are going after, so I will list a few loads of different bullet weights that shot good in my rifle.

None of these loads were max. in my rifle, but as always, use caution, start low and work up because every rifle is different.

All loads use Fed 215 primers and Weatherby  brass.

75 gr Hornady V-Max: H4831 62.4 gr; R19 72.7 gr
100 gr Barnes Triple Shock:  H4831 64.0 gr;  AA3100 66.8 gr
117 gr Hornady SST:  H4831 62.0; AA3100 64.1 gr
117 gr Nosler Partition: H4831 64.5 gr

I know you will really enjoy the rifle, have fun working up loads for it.

Ozarks.
