taboo 45acp bear question
Posted by rost495 on Jul 21 2005
Ok, no room for arguing yea or nay.  My wife will use her Kimber 45acp next fall for a sidearm.

Question now is I finally looked and found a jacketed FMJ flat point in 230 grains.  I don't like the odds of the hardball round skidding around and want a flat point.  Now the question is, hard cast or FMJ?  I do know that sometimes the lead squirts out the back of FMJ bullets.  I dont' know if that should be a factor in deciding.  Am not sure how badly a hard cast will deform either.

Hard cast I'm looking at is beartooth bullets 225 or 230 flat point.  FMJ Hornady listed at 230 FMJ flat point.

Thoughts, real life performance, theories all welcome.

PS I noticed really quick in the load book that if I can stick with 230-240 the 45 will be able to equal or outrun the 44 special bulldog barrel. Helped the decision and also helped that Carolyn was much happier being allowed to carry her concealed carry gun.

Thanks in advance, hoping the pot isn't stirred too bad.  PS will have bear fence too! Jeff
