Colt-Sauer
Posted by Murphy on Jul 19 2005
CD,

Rear locking lugs, detachable magazine, tang safety, funny little bolt release on the root of the bolt handle, unnecessarily complicated, complex toggle trigger, very smooth action, high level of fit and finish, glossy.  I have seen the standard grade go for two big ones. They were made in three grades, the highest with engraving. They are and have always been expensive. I think it is because colt has had very few rifles and the collectors jump on them.  All Colt rifles are high, with the exception of the light rifle, Ultra Lite Arms, Melvin Forbes company, bought by colt and bankrupt in the same week,  Those rifles are cheap.  Cabela's gun library sells both from time to time and of course www.gunsamerica.com will have a few listed.
Your rifle was the Sauer deluxe version which was made for a while after colt but then dropped to put effort into the model 202 which is a better rifle from a design stand point and has a slick way of changing barrels from one caliber to another.  I've owned a few of those, in metrics mostly. The 202 retails for about $1300.00 and is a very good shooter. Flaydermann's guide is considered the best source for establishing gun values.  A book called "Bolt Actions Rifles" by Frank de Haas will have some info on the rifle.

Hope this helps and good shootin'.
