Have 300 grain hard casts for my Smith 329PD as a carry gun for a trip next fall again. Though the odds of a bear encounter are very slim and don't bother me I do carry a pistol just for peace of mind.

My wife will be going next fall also.  I can't afford another handgun and have a 44 special in a small gun(read that to be charter arms bulldog).

My guess is I should buy a box of 240 hard cast and just load them up to normal 44 special levels for her to carry.  

Any other (realistic) thoughts?

We are not carrying a rifle for this hunt as I'll be grabbing my nephews if the moment occurs and I don't see the sense in all 3 of us hunters having rifles.  Wifes sister will be carrying the Ptarmigan shotgun(with slugs until we find birds)
