350, 458

My all purpose gun is a 350 Rigby, picture a 375 H&H w/o a belt and necked to 35 caliber, and you have the right picture, 250 gr @ 2700 fps.  I shoot it just as accurately as my .308, so figure why not shoot a bigger gun.  I also have a 458 Lott as a backup rifle.

I ascribe to the, shoot the biggest gun you shoot well and shoot it well school.  I also believe with a bit of practice, most folks can shoot a bigger gun just as well as a smaller gun.  95+% of the time you'll never need anything more than a 30-06, but in those times when you need more gun, you really need more gun.

I would confidently hunt any Alaskan species with a 260 rem on up. It's just with the smaller bores, I'd be very picky with my shots and have to pass up some animals I'd take with a bigger gun.  The bigger gun doesn't make up for poor shooting, but it does through enough bullet for angling shots and taking out the running gear.
