Ok, just inherited a .444s lever action marlin....how much use will this be my first year in Ak hunting black bear, moose, carib?  What is the range?

Also, what about for short range on brown bears the next year?  

It has sentimental value...i was told to get it rebarreled to a .50 cal..but that is $1000 here...soooo...gotta wait on that one...
