I've shot a 3 inch sabot and killed 2 300lbs hog
Posted by jssbastiat on Jun 27 2005
I've shot two 300lbs hogs with the 3 inc sabot remington copper hollow points, 1500 fps...both shots were lung shots, a tad high just behind the shoulder....both hogs had alot of fat on them and the copper slug went through the skin, grissle plate, fat layer, and then then left a dollar size hole in the ENTRANCE side of the rib cage...then it hit both lungs, both hogs, then left a silver dollar size exit wound through the ribs, fat, grizzle plate and toughen skin....both hogs ran apprx. 30 yards and dropped but both shots were high lung shots...huge holes!!!

then i went to the winchester gold partitions?  and they are pushing 1900 fps...i hit a 175lb sow who was quartered towards me, in the upper neck going through the vitals and exiting out the lower rear stomach, opposite side...and she dropped in her tracks....same silver dollar size holes...so, these stats are better...sighted in at 150 yards, it rises 2 inc or so at 75 and drops 2 in or so at 175 yds...not bad..

but i have read that there is a rifled 3.5 inch slug gun now...i saw the shells at http://www.tarhunt.com/tarhunt/estore/index.cfm?catid=20&id=1&cfid=3854284&cftoken=91933918 ...but have not seen the bolt action rifle the sight spoke about...

but was hoping one of ya'll could tell me who made it..I would like to shoot the 3.5 in 12 ga instead of a 300, etc just to be different!!!

the guy told me that his slugs would work for me up to 165 yards, no more, in a 12 ga 3.5 chamber...

got a question..i got a .444 rifle and  a NICE 7 mag from a friend...would either one of these rifles work up in alaska my first year there hunting black bear...(i'm moving there july 8 or so to teach...i have already missed putting in for my moose tag in my zone...soooo, i'm left with hunint black bear my first year, but, cool with me...If not, i'd like to go with the 3.5 12 ga bolt action rifled slug gun if i can find it..and i'm buying a .454 casull as back up...
