Not too long ago there was a fellow jogging at an Anchorage trail, and a bear charged him and his dog from the brush. He had a .45 caliber pistol, I believe, and shot the bear at a very close range. I don't remember if he killed the bear, or if F&G shot it later, but that bear was killed. This happened in December, I think.
