bear handguns
Posted by mauserboy on Jun 26 2005
I have been enjoying reading all the threads on what to carry in a handgun for bear protection. What I learned about life threatening situations is that all the practice in the world to make yourself proficient probably won't matter as much as you think once a "real" life-threatening situation arrises. All of us who travel through country where the possibilty of a bear attack exists can only wonder how we will react when the moment comes. I know loads of people who shoot at targets of all sorts who shoot well, but until the time comes, who knows? Having sold guns for many years, I can think of literally a hundred times when I asked someone "Could you use this gun if a person attacked you? Unless they could honestly say yes, I suggested other means for self-defense. I really believe it is the same when anything attacks. I know many police officers, trained properly who will admit that if the first shot or two in a fitrefight hits its mark, there is some good fortune involved. So, within reasonable parameters, what you use is less important then being able to use it when needed. Oh, the Native woman shot the Griz in the ear as it walked by, unaware of her. She got lucky.
