handguns
Posted by grizz106 on Jun 24 2005
I too am concerned when I hunt who is aware of whom first. I am not concerned about the arm at hand as am getting the shot required. I think one needs to attend to listening skills and studying the habitat of animals in their "area" of hunting or whatever. I too have had the pleasure of using and sold by the way a .454 Casull and used some mighty loads but..... all that weight bout crippled me up for a week or so. Get used to one firearm well and get use to so well that when you point it is "on" when either do off the "hip" or on the shoulder. I've chased out bears when hunting moose--maybe we were hunting together and the bear got "nervous" and did not like my smell. Good thing--he had the edge, first. But this is life--enjoy it and remember their is not a bear behind every bush and most bears will leave you alone. Always use a bullet to penetrate without question, I do not care if your using a .30-30, reload or buy the premiums off the shelf and practice till its "boring", it will save your or yours in a pinch. My handgun load is a .45 Colt in a Ruger Bisley 4 5/8bbl., tuned trigger,BeltMtn. Basepin,Lett grips and 345grain WLNGC with 22.5grains of H110. I have practiced, reloaded, dried fired so often after a few thousand rounds I still practice. It is the only handgun I use and carry--that and my Bible.
