I opt for the S&W 4in barrel 500 mag. If I have to use it I want all the power I can find. Even though I am proficient with a handgun it does not take an expert to shoot a bear 10 feet away. I doubt many people could maintain there cool in front of a charging. Have it on your side and know how to draw and fire it quickly. A rifle or shotgun on the beach does no one any good.
