With geese you tend to rock back except when they're right overhead, so a lot of the recoil is absorbed. With a shot below eye level, the gun is essentially trying to lift you as you rock back, and it tends to move you a lot more violently. Just put a 5 gallon plastic bucket out at about 20 feet and empty the gun at it as fast as you can. If you're like me, it will ring your bell pretty good by the time you get to the bottom of the magazine!
