Charles Daly bolt guns
Posted by Darreld Walton on May 20 2005
Before Clinton, and the civil war in Yugoslavia, these were known as the Interarms Mark X.  A local gunsmith made a dozen or so of these available recently sans scope, but with the Butler Creek stock installed for $289 and some for the Governor, bringing them to $320 out the door.
I picked one up in .308 Winchester, my Son bought an '06.  I had a couple of old Weaver K4's kicking around, as well as Redfield Jr bases and appropriate rings, which we mounted onto the rifles.
I've had Mark X's that performed REALLY well in the past for me, a 7x57 and a .375 H&H Whitworth, and both were 'eyeball' accurate (sub-minute of angle at 100 yards).  I didn't know what to expect out of these with Daley's name on them, but we took them to the range and put them on the bags, and fired several loads through each at a hundred yards.  Well, the .308's best effort was with 165 Hornady flat base W-W cases, Varget and Federal 210 primers.  Five rounds went WELL under an inch, with three of the shots clustered into one ragged hole.  The Son's '06 developed a busted crosshair at round four, but it was promising as well.
I wasn't sure I'd need a 24" barreled .308, but I'm liking it more and more, and don't see any great urgency to cut it back to carbine length for the sake of a handier rifle.
Thought some of  you might be interested in what (for me) seems to be one HECKUVA bargain.
I understand that the ones that are currently available now have 22" barrels, and are just a bit pricier, like under $50 more than what we acquired ours for, but some shopping might get a real deal on one of these.  Tough to reclaim a military 98 and turn it into a boat gun for that kind of money!
