In my experience the stainless synthetic is the way to go in Alaska. The stainless can get some light rust spots, but nothing like a blued barrel. The stainless requires far less maintenance in wet weather. Also a wooden stock is much more likely to twist or swell when it gets wet than a synthetic stock. Just my .02
