I have a leupold 2.5x scout scope on my guide gun and find it to be about perfect for it.  I went with the heavy german post reticle that is easy to see against any background.  I can routinely shoot 1 1/2 - 2" groups at 100 yards with it, sometimes a little better.  You might want to try a few of the options there are out there and see what works best for you.
