Only a scope or red dot 4 U...
Posted by Brian Richardson on Mar 18 2005
I would not bother w/ irons in your case...

I'm a bettin' kind a guy when it comes to solving these problems - so I'll say you are over 55.

Here is what you want to do assuming you have the right glasses in this inquiry.  There is simply no way in a tri-focal plane or you w/ out glasses to clearly see both the front and rear sight w/ the definition that is needed for proper gun-sight alignment.

In this picture, you will use the upper most part of your tri-focal that is set for your vision requirements on infinity... do I have ya so far?

OK -

I'd get a low power, wide field of view, and a simple reticle that can be easily defined when your waving it around the woods/alder or hiking up into poorly lighted situations/camping out.

I would also bag the scout scope, back up ghost rings, and so on options,
and
GO w/ a good eye relief, standard mounting scope, and an eye-ring that has focusing... again for your eye scenario the scope must be closer to your naked eye vision or the uppermost part of the tri-focal in order for you to focus the eye-ring (ocular) properly ---plus for however you plan on aiming/shooting (glasses or sans glasses).

Your eyes will probably get worse over time, corections will change, etc. and your gun will more than likely see alot of use 'cause it is so easy/handy to carry.

Get one suitable system that will work and stick w/ it... I see no advantage to iron sites as back up to sum up your specific needs in this (what is really) a straightforward math equation.

An Aimpoint red dot scope or heads up display - I might view as a good second option.

Best wishes and good shootin' -
