Ithaca Model 37
Posted by Brian Richardson on Mar 18 2005
First let me say the Ithica is spelled Ithaca.  They are very good guns!

Second the bottom feed bottom eject model 37 has been around a long, long time having hunting, military and law eforcement lineage/history.

In recent years the 37 pump has seen some revival and mechanical changes (namely the trigger... used to be you hold the trigger back, keep on pumping , and the shells go a shukin' & a flyin').  Most of the new 37 changes are cosmetic and the gun functions the same.

Famous hunting guns of Ithaca's 37 were the Deerslayer and the Featherweights... most came w/ engravings.

Ithaca was way ahead of its time using high visability glow sights - however not true fiber-optics like today's versions.

The guns new in the box are not cheaper than most versions of the Remington 870... so it may be a good deal.

Make doggone sure it is not a China made copy!!!  They sell for cheap, cheap, cheap!!! and are CHEAP!

The newest Deerslayer has a fully rifled, free-floated barrel attached to the receiver in a permanent manner.

I like the new Turkeyslayer model 37... that's pretty cool!

To my Knowledge... there are no recognized Ithaca stocking dealers in the State of Alaska!  I decided to check, and my figuring was true.

So more than likely it is not the newest/latest models & if you are saying it is cheaper than the 870 it could be an older model which ius just fine (*check the trigger function) or somthing in between... here is a link so you can figure this out and then look at a blue book of values. http://www.ithacagun.com/product/serial_check.shtml
