First off I am an Alaskan born and bred - raised up in the Koyukon region and now reside in the Chandalar country. Hunting is not unusual for me nor the use of firearms. I have learned some on reloading, as a gift was given me some years back and it was a Forester press. I have resized a .338 mag brass of mine up to neck dim. of .375 wow! pretty neat short magnum. Understand that it could be built on a long action like my Ruger M77MKII .30-06. Seems like quite alot of money to get that kind of performance that rivals the .375HH and still be less than that of my .375RUM. Was informed the .375Taylor as it were provides less recoil and is by far I suppose more managable - I wanted to improve this Ruger due to the bolt design and find something ballistically sound for stopping the aggressive behaviors of either moose or bear in regards for my ever loving wife. The ole .06 of mine is in sound shape and is an .06 but it is NOT the all around gun as we know. Not to get in the debate of history on the design or use as I have much in regard to the caliber but it can be improved on to where my wife can send a bigger slug with impact within say 250 yds. I suppose the .06 can be beefed up to deliver such a round and I prefer her to send an .375 out opposed to any other dia. and still have modest velocities and energy out to again say 250 yds. Is this the .375 whelan? Murphy you said the least expensive route is to punch a hole bigger and get a set of dies - how does the bigger bullet react within the rails as it feeds into the throat or bore? I have heard of the .338-06 but have never read on it. Is that too a rebore or rebarrel? To buy a .376 Steyr for me is out of the question - something to rebuild would be par for the course and that route would probably be the Montana action in a .375Taylor if I can come up with the monies and overlook other of my needs. But to the point Spring Bear is soon on me and I would like very much to upgrade my .06 to shoot a .33 or a .37 cal to a modest 2700fps if possible. Never even considered the 35 whelan either is that a 2600fps/35 cal? Previous: 375 Whelen Murphy Mar 14 2005 Next: 375-06 something Murphy Mar 15 2005 Message Thread:
