talley rings
Posted by Murphy on Feb 22 2005
Grizz,

The best thing to do is give the Talleys a toss. (my way please) Just joshin' ya!
I would never locktite the ring screws. I've mounted a lot of Talleys and never lock tite any thing when new. If the bases have been put on and off a lot they might benefit from it. If they are on the rifle now just make sure they are tight and leave them. Taking them on and off is not so good.  What model rifle? Are the rings levers or screw types? Put them on with finger torgue with the standard L-shaped allen/torx (depending on age of mounts). We actually want 20 inch pounds. Some of the very early rings have slotted screws. Put the ring halves around the scope with the levers on the side you prefer and tighten the bottom screws only leave the top screw out. (Use only one lever and cap to hold on until you're done with positioning.) This will enable you to turn and slide the scope to correct position. When you have it where you want it, put in top screws. Make sure rings fit down flat into the saddle. If you need to readjust just loosen the top screws. On some rifles, the rear lever will interfere with the bolt release on the left side of the receiver. They can be put on the right side. You may have to fiddle with the levers to adjust them to the desired position. The rings are a pain to install some times but well worth the effort. A hundred bucks worth of mounts and the very best detachables available. You have a good setup. Good shootin'.
