Grizz,
I have two VariXIII's in 2.5-8x36 with a Duplex reticle. I have not experienced the "detents" as you called them. I can't imagine what a click adjustment would be for? I'd give Leupold a call and see what gives. I found them to be very accomodating. Phone 503.526.1400
