MnO2
Posted by Murphy on Feb 13 2005
tj,
Manganese Dioxide, MnO2, a sever oxidizer, may cause cause combustion if in contact with flamable material. Can cause permanent lung damage if enhaled. Could be fatal if infested. Has known link to Parkinsons Disease. Sounds like fun! Huh!!
It is used in glazes on ceramic products to add a metallic sparkle and that may be a source.(ceramic shops) It reduces to MnO at 535 degrees C and is fired in kilns to make ceramic coatings. When fired (heated to cone 6, about 2250 degrees F) it leaves a dark grey to black finish. Yeah it might work. I have seen a lot of.....well different stuff on this forum......One does not ordinarily play with MnO2.  Uh!....good shootin'.
