You can use 3m Vetrap.  A self adhesive tape used on animals to wrap bandages.  Its pretty inexpensive and leaves absolutely no residue.  You can usualy get it in white, tan, black, and dark green.  It works great.  You can even write on it with a permanent marker to add a pattern.  FLat black spray paint is also very good for covering your guns, I have also used it on blued guns to keep it from rusting so bad.
