Posted by 180pilot on Jan 27 2005 With a new generation of hunters, is seems Winchester is banking on them not knowing the .325 is a .323 or 8mm. You can fool some of the people some of the time. We all expected a short .338 because the good heavy bullets are already around. But, they couldn't get the ballistics to match the long mag in that bore size so.....shoot a lighter smaller bullet a little faster and play with the math and caliber name. Now they say it equals a .338 Win Mag. That's yet to be seen. So it would have shot a few feet slower in .338. Well, the .308 win in factory form is slower than an 30/06, but it's sure doing a pretty good job. For Alaska, where 250 grain loads are common, I think they missed the boat. In the lower 48, with Elk the most common large game, it could become popular by those who think it would have an edge with 200-220 grain bullets in light mountain rifles, time will tell.
