It'll be a good enough cartridge, but I doubt it will be commercially sucessful.  There is a limited selection of componet bullets for the handloader, and factory ammo will likely be carried in a few shops.

I'd personally rather have either a 300 WSM shooting 165's @ 3100 for a flatter shooting rig, or a 338 or 358 shooting 225's or 250's as a bigger rig.  The 8mm seems like it is in no mans land IMHO.  It doesn't shoot the bigger heavier bullets I want for the bigger species up here, nor the lighter faster bullets for the smaller species.
