Too wet in SE
Posted by Forestar on Jan 26 2005
I used muzzleloaders almost exclusively back East (as an alternative to smooth bore shotguns) for my big game hunting and had great success (many deer and one black bear).  I have not used one in SE since I moved here -- it's just too darned wet most of the time.  Although, with the new in-line rigs, weather is much less a factor than with more tradition designs.  I have a TC Hawken in .54 cal and something I had custom made that is the equivalent of a .45-90.  Lots more choices today than there were 10-20 years ago.

I don't think there's a critter that walks on this planet that hasn't been killed with a muzzleloader -- there's a lot to be said about the stopping power of very large chunks of lead traveling at realtively slow velocities. But when it comes to dangerous game, I'd sure want to be backed up by something a bit more reliable.
