I didn't get a chance to respond to your post last week so I'll try now.

You asked about one gun for AK, I think you have already come up with the right caliber. You got some good input. I beleive the 338 WM is great for the Alaska bush and all its many animals.  The 338 was my elk rifle for a half dozen good bulls, it always worked. I haven't shot any animal in AK but have taken many of varied size elsewhere, with the 338. It is certainly good for 300+ yds on anything here, except Brownies, and then at reasonable distances. It is the most recommended caliber by Alaska guides, from what I can gather. Of all the calibers that would work for big bears, it is the most shootable, due to recoil level. I am most associated with the 375H&H, but the 338 WM is a better choice for most shooters. Marksmanship is everything and getting good with a 338 will take less conditioning than with the 375.
