[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Thanks Posted by ptarmigan on Jan 21 2005 Thanks for the info. I grew up in Maine using an 8 mm Mauser as my principle big game gun. My grandfather brought it back from the war and sporterized it himself, as he is a competant gunsmith. I am quite confident in its ability to kill moose, caribou, and black bear as it has brought down a few before. But the idea of a shot over 100 yds is most real here and running into an animal that might decide to tear me up has me looking bigger. I did some ballistic checks on the 338wm and it is impressive, even out to some pretty good distances. My friend back home let me shoot his 338 RUM and that seemed a bit obnoxious. I think the WM is enough gun and the recoil is well within my tolerances. I just like to here what you guys have to say because there is no real substitute for field experience, even with all the charts and graphs at hand. Thanks again, and any more input is always welcome. Previous: another 338 vote Daveintheburbs Jan 21 2005 Next: Ptarmigan, All-Around Rifle Murphy Jan 31 2005 Message Thread:
