I beleive the difference in short and long is just the range at which the gun is sighted in. For instance a short range trajectory would be a load/rifle zeroed at 100 yards might be +1" (high) at 50 yds. and  -2.2" (low) at 150 yds. and -4.5" at 200yds. This is typically done for slower velocity round such as 45-70 Gov't, 30-30 Win, 444 Marlin etc. And long range trajectory would be zeroing at 200 yds. -2.2" at 250 yds, -6.6" at 300yds and so forth. 300 Win, 338 Win, Ultra mags, etc. might be done this way. Some ammo makers give both. A mid range trajectory will normally be shown, meaning half the distance to the zero range. Not the highest point above the bore that the bullet will reach, thats actually called max ord ( Maximum Ordinate). Mid range traj. is just half way to the zero range. Sorry about the technical crap.
