Pepper spray is restricted. In 2003, things changed because of a new management called the Canadians Firearm Center, or something like that. As far as magazines, check this out:

"Prohibited devices include:
Some large-capacity magazines designed for use on a semi-automatic centre-fire firearm. As a general rule, the maximum capacity of magazines for this type of firearm is 5 cartridges for long guns, 10 cartridges for handguns commonly found in Canada, and 5 cartridges for handguns not commonly found in Canada. This does not apply to magazines designed for rim-fire semi-automatic firearms.
Replica firearms, except for replicas of antique firearms. Replica firearms are devices that look exactly or almost exactly like a real firearm but that cannot cause serious injury or death. As a rule, to be prohibited, a device must closely resemble an existing make and and model of firearm, not just a generic firearm. Many of these devices have to be assessed case by case. "

There is a list somewhere of what is and is not acceptable, but I didn't put it in my favorites and will need to find it again.

Lever action guns would fall under non restricted guns, but I am unsure of if the mag cap would affect them. I don't think so.(I own only two of those, and sometimes forget they exist. The lever action never gets its due.;) The list I used was pretty descriptive on types of weapon by manufacturer. I'll dig it up again.

At the border, you will be asked why you are bringing the weapon. I don't know if a bad answer will get you stopped or not, but a ready reply that you don't have to think about like "I am visiting Alaska and am a target shooter. There will be several matches while I am there, and I will be participating" sounds better than "huh?". We Americans aren't used to being asked WHY we need a weapon for. Enjoy it while it lasts.
