cdhunt offers good info. I would like to add that the paperwork is very straightforward. Simpley enter your seriel numbers, barrel length, make, model etc...Once done, DO NOT SIGN YOUR NAME until your at the border. You must sign it in front of the officers at the border.

Dont let the horor stories scare you in regard to crossing into Canada with guns. Theres nothing to it.
