IIRC, Canada restricts pepper spray at the border as well. Just buy it once you're here, I guess. I would bring a rifle for the trip up, and if you're worried about two legged animals as well as four, the Canadians will not allow you to bring a weapon that carries more than five rounds, or one that your stated purpose is" for self defense". They do make an exception for the M1 Garand for target purposes though... just a thought!
