[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Tourist with gun needs etiquette lessons Posted by Ennis on Jan 13 2005 My wife and I will be spending 6 weeks in Alaska, end of May through begining of July (longer if the mood strikes us). We'll be travelling in our Van. We have been deluged with "helpful" advice from people who really don't know squat about your state. Because we tend to camp and pack in to places, most of what we are being told has more to do with muzzle energy than where to buy groceries or what a good route might be. This is our first Alaska trip and we'd like to know the "informal" rules around being armed in Alaska. In the lower 48 being out on a trail, not during hunting season, and encountering armed hikers would draw some strange reactions. Can anyone put us on the right track? Will we being seeing housewives with .44's in the movie theatre? Do we even need to bring a firearm? We occasionally have a .45 auto somewhere in our kit when travelling "down here". I comfortable with most firearms and have been a shooter for years. This isn't so much a question about do we bring our .458 Lott or a shotgun. It's more about what to expect if we do choose to have firearms out in open in Alaska. We have people down here who believe large Brown bears will crash into your hotel room in downtown Anchorage and that just about everyone keeps their guns within reach. We could use some help here. Good natured ribbing will be tolerated and probably expected. We are excited as H@ll to finally get a chance to visit AK. Next: Canadian hunters AlaskaBob Jan 16 2005 Message Thread:
