Board appointments
Posted by Chisana on May 06 2006

The people you mentioned may be great folks, but they were appointed because they support a particular agenda.  Look at the recent appointment of Bonnie Williams to the BOF, she has absolutely no fisheries background other than perhaps holding a sport fishing license.  Same with Fred Bouse the guy she replaced.  At one time board members were appointed because they were top tier, quality representatives of their user groups.  Now they are appointed because they have paid fealty to the governor or his supporters.

On thing I hear on the forums a lot is that biologists are biased and that they have something at stake in the regulatory process, or that they have a personal agenda they are trying to implement.  I've never understood that belief.  Why would a biologist care who gets to kill a moose or a salmon provided that the harvest occurs in accordance with the principles of sustained yield management?  Biologists are prohibited from becoming involved commercially with the resource they manage, so what differene would it make to them?
