a sad state of affairs
Posted by avidhunter on May 03 2006
Hmmm, I'm a little confused Walt.  With all due respect, all I ever see is you advertising your business on every single post you make to get more people up there to rent your equipment.  But wait, no, there are too many people hunting that area.  A little hypocritical?

While you call this area the local's "backyard"...it is still each & every u.s. citizen's state & federal land.  We deserve the right to hunt it.

Not all transporters & guides choose to winter in Kotzebue, but many of them winter elsewhere in Alaska and call it home.  I don't believe they should be looked down on for choosing to live within the state where they please.  Maybe you should only rent your equipment to the local people of Kotzebue and not profit from the "outsiders".  Many local people benefit from meat donations, I know this for a fact, I have personally spoken with them.

I belive this area is grossly mismanaged by the F&G and, by their own admission, the sport hunting pressure is not even a factor in recent regulations that have passed requiring drawing permits & limiting the number of caribou.  It's all political.

A little food for thought & just my opinion.
