Lots of time
Posted by martentrapper on May 02 2006
Hope your not getting too far ahead here. Your not coming to Alaska till sept 07........long ways away. Lots of changes could occur between now and then.
You need to make a decision at some point. Do you want the increased flexibility of an open ended ticket? Might give more opportunity to enjoy your hunt.......yes, the cost is more. Or do you want the cheaper RT ticket with no room for changing dates? Your call, not ours.
On airlines.......Frontier Flying Service flys daily between Fbks and Kotz. I know you can get a direct flight between Milwaukee and Fbks, so look into Frontier. Of course, sept 07 is a long ways away............!
With all the time you have to prepare, I would suggest a little less question asking, and a little more experimentation. Example: on your boot post. Can you borrow some footwear? Hip boots? Waders? Try some out if possible. Try taking a nap in hip bopots.......I'm serious. Your gonna be on the tundra for days, supposedly hunting. A warm sunny day will be easy to fall asleep on the tundra. If your curious about the breathables.........look for a cheap pair. Try them out. Money spent now, on experiments, may make all the difference in the world......alot more difference than hearing it from us way up in Alaska............and lead to a more comfortable and successful hunt.
On your sleeping bag post.......you already own a down bag. How about picking a rainy, wet weekend and go for a boat ride/camping trip. See how you like the down bag. Try and imagine using that bag, and trying to keep it dry, for 10 days of wet camping.
With all the money your spending on this trip, wouldn't it be a shame to have it be very uncomfortable because you took advice from someone you didn't even know? Experiment. Make choices based on both advise from other experienced guys, and from your own experiments.

Eric is a protege of Mike Spezak. He cut his teeth under Mike's tutelage. Both have supporters on this forum. I believe they use different aircraft. I suspect that either one will give you your money's worth..........and then some, maybe.
